ROTARY AND VALENTINES GO TOGETHER!

Four Rotary Valentine Events
Charlotte and I had the pleasure last week of participating in four of the Rotary club events that took place in our district. On
Tuesday evening, we had a great dinner with the members of the Fayetteville club. In addition to Valentine's Day, they had a surprise roast for long-time member and retired County Judge Don Holman. In the picture at left are the DG, President Marie Caldwell, honoree Don Holman and DGN 2010-2011 Carol Foster.
On Wednesday, we attended the Hamilton Place club meeting, where many spouses were in attendance and AG Jamie Craven's father, a gifted clarinetist entertained all. Pictured from the left in the photo are Past President Charles Dammann, President Henry Pate III, club scholarship recipient Nina Fris-Jensen, Charlotte, Ambassadorial Scholar Rebecca Pittenger and your truly. Rebecca leaves for Uruguay on February 27 to begin her International Relations studies. Her work there will help her complete a Ph. D. in Hispanic Studies. You may follow her adventures in Uruguay by checking in on her blog.
On Thursday, we saw many friends at the Chattanooga Rotary Club, where we were entertained by love songs played by the Jazz Band of the Seventh Day Adventist University. That evening, we were entertained by the singing group Ladies Night Out after a great meal with the Tullahoma Rotary Club at their annual Sweethearts Dinner. Charlotte and I had a great week together sharing Rotary with many friends and their loved ones.

Have You Met Ollie the Otter?
The McMinnville Breakfast club is using a District Simplified Grant of $1000, which matched club funds of $1000, and another $1000 donated by Youthact and Interact clubs to make $3000 available to provide booster seats. Ollie the Otter (club member Susan Barrett) performs at local elementary schools to raise awareness among small children of the importance of using a booster seat in conjunction with a seat belt to ride safely. In the photo, Ollie appears with members of the Eastside Interact Club. A Rotarian was able to negotiate a $10 per seat price, so 300 seats will be made available to the eight elementary schools in Warren County to be distributed by teachers to children who need them. Parents are reporting that their children are telling them that "Ollie says I 'otter' use a booster to be safe!"
The Ollie Otter Booster Seat Program is sponsored by the Tennessee Roadbuilders Association in association with the Business Media Center at Tennessee Tech. For more information, see the TRBA web site or the club web site. Another great project idea!
