MORE ON DISTRICT GOLF TOURNAMENT |
|
Donation to Bomar Interact Scholarship Foundation
The District Golf Tournament, held on a beautiful Monday, October 15, was a great success from a fun and fellowship perspective. A secondary objective was to raise money for the Bomar Interact Scholarship Foundation. When the bills and revenue were all in, the tournament produced $2247.27 to be donated to the BISF. Last year the earnings on the BISF endowment were sufficient to provide $10,000 in scholarships awarded to graduating seniors from district Interact clubs.
The Governor's Cup has been engraved with the name of the winning club and will be presented to the Farragut club on Wednesday, December 5. |

FOUR CLUBS TEAM TO IMPROVE PUBLIC RELATIONS |
|
|
Carson-Newman Intern Works for Clubs
Tina Dalton is a senior at Carson-Newman College majoring in Public Relations/Advertising, which requires a semester as an intern. Bill Wadlington (Morristown) struck on the idea of hiring an intern to assist the Jefferson City, Morristown, Morristown AM and Rogersville Rotary Clubs in providing public relations assistance and developing web sites for the clubs. The pay she received ($150 for the semester) plus free meals when attending club meetings is more than many interns receive. She brought skills, youth and enthusiasm to the assignment. In addition to pay, Tina learned a lot about Rotary and had regular contact with Rotarians who may be hiring graduating seniors.
Wadlington says the four Rotary clubs want to continue using interns and he is willing to discuss with interested clubs how they might try a similar program in their area. Contact Bill at morristownrotary@hotmail.com.

NORTH AMERICAN ROTARY EMERGENCY DISASTER INITIATIVE |
|
Early Registration Deadline Ends Today!
How will Rotarians in your club and our district respond in the event a natural disaster leaves neighborhoods full of middle class houses looking like the one on the right? That picture was taken last January during the first North American Disaster Workshop. The house is one of many left in the wake of Katrina 18 months after the event. Even more houses were completely demolished. Has someone from your club registered to attend the meeting in Nashville on December 14-15? Come and work with other Rotarians to consider how your club and our district can respond in a coordinated way to disasters in our district and around the world. Click on this link to learn more about the event and register to attend.
Bobby Davis (Kingston) and Tom Kale (North River) of our district Disaster Services Committee and I hope to see you there!
