Clubs Have the Opportunity to Recommend a Candidate
Does your club have a member who has served as president of a Rotary club whom you think should be considered to be district governor in 2010-2011? If so, please talk to that person and your current president or secretary about suggesting her or him to the District Nominating Committee. The required forms are available (or will be available soon) for download from our district web site at governor nomination forms. The completed and signed forms must be received by PRIVP John Germ, Chair of the Nominating Committee, by December 21, 2007. Interviews of the candidates will be conducted by the Nominating Committee in Chattanooga on January 5, 2008.
Additional information about the process are in the District Rules of Procedure, which are in the District Directory available from your club's president, secretary or president-elect.

District Golf Tournament A Success! |
|
Farragut Club Wins Governor's Cup
Monday, October 15, was a beautiful day at the Oak Ridge Country Club for the first ever fall district golf tournament, played by 88 players on 22 teams representing 18 Rotary clubs. The Bomar Flight was won by Livingston, with Morristown-Morristown AM in second place and Knoxville Breakfast in third. After 18 holes, there was a three-way tie in the Governor's Cup Flight. The tie was resolved through a score card playoff, won by Farragut, with last year's winner Hamilton Place in second place and Oak Ridge Breakfast in third.
Nathan Blanchard (Morristown) had the longest drive for men and Ann Knowis (Tullahoma) the longest drive for women despite an ankle boot. Or did the boot give her an advantage? Jonathan Tipton (Knoxville Breakfast) was closest to the hole on #8, Steve Shults (Oak Ridge Breakfast) was closest on #17, and the putting contest was won by Steve Holley (Hamilton Place).
Thanks to all the golfers who came from across the district for fun and fellowship and special thanks to the tournament committee and 35 volunteers who made the occasion a memorable one for all!!

Golfers Raise $40,000 in Rotary Golf Marathon |
|
Golfers who participated in the Bradley Sunrise Rotary Club's Goff-Hall Hope Builders Classic golf marathon raised $40,000 for Habitat for Humanity and Angel Flight on September 24. More than 20 golfers teed off at 8 a.m. at the Cleveland Country Club with the goal of completing more than 100 holes of golf before sundown. The overall winner was determined by who raised the most monetary pledges.
The team of Matt Dillard and Chris Parker was the top fundraiser with more than $7,650 in donations. Farrell Hall completed the most holes of golf with 133. "Named in honor of two deceased Rotarians, Wayne Hall and Dale Goff, the 3rd Annual Goff-Hall Hope Builders Classic was a tremendous success," said club president Lisa Mantooth. All proceeds from the event will benefit the club's service projects, Habitat for Humanity and Angel Flight, an aviation service for needy medical patients.
"We will spread the funds throughout the community to these very worthwhile agencies," Mantooth said. "We are blessed and humbled by the generosity of the Cleveland community as well as those who traveled a great distance to participate in the event."

ATTENDANCE RECORDING AND REPORTING |
|
|
How Does Your Club Calculate Attendance?
A few clubs have asked the following question, "If a member has unused make-ups during a month, may those makeups be used in the calculation of monthly attendance?" If so, at least theoretically, a club's attendance could be greater than 100%. My sources in Club and District Support at Rotary International and I could not find any answer in the RI By-Laws or the RI Code of Policies. Some clubs are calculating monthly attendance that way. Others do not include made-up attendance not used by the member. Clearly, a club may not use a make-up by one member for another. Whatever you think the right answer is, we don't currently have a level playing field for our district attendance awards.
The RI By-Laws are clear about attendance reporting. Article 4.090 (pp. 178-179 of the 2004 Manual of Procedure) states, "Each club shall forward monthly attendance reports of its meetings to the governor within 15 days of the last meeting of each month." Club secretaries should be sending their attendance reports to attendance6780@yahoo.com. Some clubs are waiting longer than the 15 days to allow for additional make-up information to arrive. Please send your reports on time. You may send a corrected report later. We have a few clubs that are not reporting attendance at all and I'm trying to get that fixed. |

6th Annual Roane County Band Festival |
|
|
Hosted by Harriman, Kingston and Rockwood Rotary Clubs
The sixth annual Roane County Band Festival was held Monday night, October 15, on Wallace Black Field at Harriman High School. The Rotary Clubs of Harriman, Kingston, and Rockwood present the event each year as a forum in which the county's five high school bands (Harriman, Midway, Oliver Springs, Roane County, and Rockwood) have an opportunity to see each other's shows in a noncompetitive environment. Admission to the festival is either non-perishable food or monetary donations. This year's event raised 27 boxes of food, which was donated to the Roane County Food Pantry, and $1,000, which was distributed to the five bands to defray expenses to participate in the event. This year's event was the largest so far in both attendance and donations received. |
